Frequently Asked Questions
Product Info & Ingredients
Q: Are these products safe for sensitive skin?
A: Yes! They are handcrafted with whole, plant-based ingredients and clean oils free from synthetic fragrances, phthalates, or chemical preservatives. For any skin care products, we always suggest doing a quick patch test before applying to a large area.
Q: How long do the balms and oils stay fresh?
A: Because they are formulated using stable natural oils and butters without water fillers, they stay fresh and potent for 12 to 18 months. Keep them stored out of direct sunlight and extreme heat. They should only be applied using dry hands or scoops as introducing water to the container will cause bacteria to grow.
Q: How are balms and salves different than standard water-based lotions?
A: Regular lotions are up to 70-80% water, which would dilute the plant benefits significantly. Because our balms and salves are 100% active, waterless concentrates made with pure plant oils and beeswax, a tiny amount covers a massive surface area and locks in hydration hours longer without chemical additives. You will also notice our plant infusions, which deliver the benefits, are the first ingredient (instead of the last as in many lotions and store brands). As a side note, water-based products require preservatives and emulsifiers to keep the formula stable. If you are buying water-based products, ensure the brand is using naturally derived preservatives.
Q: Why don’t you use fragrance oils?
A: Most synthetic fragrance oils are manufactured in labs using petroleum-derived chemicals, phthalates, and undisclosed fixatives designed to mimic a scent unnaturally for years. These chemicals frequently trigger skin irritation, dermatitis, and severe headaches or respiratory sensitivity for many consumers. While there are more “natural” fragrance oils created by remixing natural isolates in a lab, they lack any of the plant benefits we pride ourselves on. We choose to formulate exclusively with 100% steam distilled essential oils and slow-infused whole plants. This ensures our products deliver an authentic, aromatherapeutic experience that works in harmony with the body’s skin biome without shortcuts and with real herbal benefits.
Q: I see other "natural" or "clean" brands using fragrance oils on their labels. What is the difference?
A: Many brands use a legal loophole called "greenwashing," where they market themselves as natural but still use synthetic fragrance oils to create artificial, ultra-potent scents (like cotton candy, birthday cake, or ozone) that cannot be naturally derived from a plant. The FDA does not require companies to disclose the individual ingredients inside a "fragrance" blend, meaning those products often hide hundreds of ingredients under a single word. At Botanicals & Blaze, we practice absolute transparency. If a scent doesn't come directly from a real distilled plant, fruit, wood, or flower, we simply do not use it. All our ingredients are listed and comply with federal INCI labeling.
Q: What makes your plant infusion process different from mass-market brands?
A: Most commercial brands buy pre-made synthetic fragrance oils or cheap isolates and mix them into a base. We slow-infuse whole, raw botanicals (like whole calendula flowers and arnica) directly into our organic carrier oils. This method pulls the entire living therapeutic matrix, vitamins, and nutrients out of the plant and transfers it directly into the final product.
Q: Are your ingredients ethically and sustainably sourced?
A: Absolutely. We prioritize organic, wildcrafted, and mindfully harvested plants. We use clean, earth-friendly bases like pure beeswax and unrefined plant butters that support sustainable agricultural practices. We never source ingredients that damage local ecosystems work with local suppliers as much as possible.
Care & Safety
Q: Can these products melt in high heat or change texture?
A: Because they are natural and made without chemical stabilizers, our balms can soften or melt if left in a hot car or under direct summer sun. If melting happens, simply place the tin in the refrigerator for 20-30 minutes. It will solidify perfectly and retain all its healing benefits.
Q: How long will the product last?
A: Our home care products have no expiration dates. Our body products have a shelf life of 12 months or greater with proper care. Follow these guidelines for best results:
- Store in cool, dry areas
- Keep sealed when not in use
- Use dry hands or scoops to apply
With plant infusions, occasionally small fibers make their way into a product. This is completely safe & a reminder that your purchase came from nature. As weather fluctuates, you may notice the consistency is harder in cooler climates or softer in summer heat. If you have any questions, please reach out. We love to help our customers!
Q: Are these products safe during pregnancy or while breastfeeding?
A: Our topical base oils and whole-plant infusions (like Calendula and Rose) are incredibly gentle and excellent for stretching skin. However, since a few high-concentration essential oils (like Wintergreen in the Deep Relief Muscle Rub) are generally advised against during pregnancy, we recommend that expecting mothers consult their healthcare provider before using the targeted essential oil formulas. On our website we have created a collection specifically for pregnancy safe formulations.
Packaging & Shipping
Q: Are the packaging materials eco-friendly?
A: Absolutely. The aluminum tins, glass roller bottles, and glass jars are highly sustainable, infinitely recyclable, and easy for customers to clean out and reuse at home. We are also actively exploring how we can potentially take used containers back for a discount on future products.
Q: When will I get my order?
A: We will work quickly to ship your order as soon as possible. Once your order has shipped, you will receive an email with further information. Delivery times vary depending on your location.
